Here are some photos from a day trip to the south coast! We went last Thursday, Lunar New Year: rented a car, left at 6:30 in the morning, had fun boating around and taking pics all day, and made it back to town for spicy chicken feet by 8 o’clock. Here’s the location of the beach:
The pics below (and their captions) say it all. I thought about writing this all out, but I’m focusing on my research project right now since I’ve got a conference coming up at the end of March and need to get crackin’ on this thing. Enjoy!
The selfie stick and the GoPro turned out to be so FUN. Not ashamed at all.
Here we are getting ready to leave the city!
Of course, we had to get some snacks first.
Indomart never looked so good.
These kids are professional selfie takers.
In the car, ready to go.
It took just a few hours to get to the beach!
So this is where the pics I took start… Here’s the car we rented and a boat, on the shore.
We hopped on the boat to go to the first stop, for snorkeling! I didn’t want to snorkel…it’s hard without glasses and I’m just a little phobic. Ever since what I’m assuming was a barracuda almost attacked me in North Sulawesi, I can’t do the snorkeling!! I managed to snorkel with Maria in Lombok over New Years, but…it was terrifying!
This kid! Such a great travel companion and friend!
Fashionista goes to the beach.
She couldn’t resist the water!! She almost jumped off the side of the boat!
One of our two boatmen. Captains?
This is a full view of the style of boat we took.
THIS is a REAL selfie, taken with my digital camera, not front-facing. Ha. Nice shades.
This is a serious selfie…on the boat.
Lots of boats at the snorkeling spot.
There you can see our friend using the GoPro, which we rented for the day for about $10. It’s an underwater safe camera and camcorder. The others are getting back in the boat!
Stylish lipstick is a must at the beach.
I have never been to the beach and seen so many photos taken. It was basically a day-long photo shoot.
I brought an umbrella because I didn’t have any sunscreen, and boy did it become a fun prop.
Sand! Water! Sun! Green!
More photo shoot time with the umbrella.
Lovely big clouds! The second half of the day was rainy, but we had a beautiful morning!
I don’t generally enjoy the beach, but even the hardest of hearts softens up eventually! Too beautiful not to love!
Hanging out under the tree on Bolu Bolu Island, the second stop after snorkeling.
Selfie sticks galore! Lovely view!
Waiting for the boat to come and pick us up so we could go to the next spot– a waterfall!
Low tide! The waterfall was super short and stout. I loved it.
A busy day as the clouds roll in. We went on a national holiday–Lunar New Year–so the crowds were larger than normal but not what I’d call large, by Indonesian standards!
Back on the mainland, clouds in the sky.
Of course, where there’s a group of kids playing soccer, there are big kids who’ll join in.
The rest of the images starting from here were taken using the Go Pro!
I’m not rearranging all of these in chronological order, so we’re starting again from the first departure. Sorry!
Here we are on the boat!
Yep, there we are still!
Life vests are cool!
Seriously, how can someone be so glamorous?
The selfies continue.
They never stop, really. Especially with the GoPro!
The sweet sunlight!
See how cool the GoPro is???
Sammy hides from the sun! I managed to escape without too much of a burn– just the tip of my nose and my forearms ended up a little pink. That’s a success considering I had no sunscreen!
Boys on rocks.
Sammy and the umbrella! The girl I travelled with almost lost her mind because of my nerdiness. Umbrella, hand fan, and scarf all the way. I told her it didn’t matter because I already stick out like a sore thumb among the locals anyway!!
GoPro in the waterfall!
I swear, everything I brought became a prop! And I love it.
The umbrella also shields from splashes.
For some reason this pic came out the best, color-wise, so I put it last!! Loved spending the day with these cuties. We had such a fun time!
Photos from our trip to Lenggoksono, Malang, coming soon!
